A mother diagnosed with a golf-sized brain tumor went to see a doctor more than 10 times but was told she had just had menopause.
Karen Audley has migraine, insomnia, exhaustion, leg tension and pain.
But instead of quickly realizing what was going on, she was prescribed hormone replacement therapy to help her cope with "changes ".
After two years of false diagnosis, she "crawled into the GP on my hand and on my knee" and was eventually recommended for an MRI scan.
The scan showed a tumor of 4 cm-1 and a half inches behind her eye socket.
"I went to see a doctor and at first I got a muscle relaxation to ease my leg," recalls Karen of merrydon . ".
"Then I was sprayed with a nasal spray because I felt my airway was infected.
After that, I received hormone replacement therapy because the doctor said it was typical menopause.
"Karen is still worried, so she went to check her eyesight in case it was the cause of a serious headache.
She said I did a vision test on a local pair of boots and they said there was a lot of pressure behind my eyes.
Then I went to the hospital eye, but I still didn't.
A suspect is a tumor.
"I think there's something inside me.
I knew something was wrong.
One day I broke down and my hands and knees climbed into the doctor. I was a mess.
The day after doing an MRI scan on March 2017, neurologist called Karen and told her they found a lump in her brain. The mum-of-
In June, when she was waiting for surgery, five people were served cocktails of drugs and steroids.
Karen recalled when I found myself speeding.
"My daughter is with me-she just broke down.
There's a little relief because you know you're not lying and there's a reason you feel like you're dying.
But it was quickly replaced by unimaginable terror.
Karen underwent an eight-hour brain surgery at Coventry University Hospital, where the doctor found that she had a low-grade chiropractic tumor.
The surgeon was unable to remove all the lumps because it was close to her visual nerves and the mom needed to put a metal plate on her head.
After the procedure, Karen has dropped four stones after taking steroids, but now has to take nerve drugs and painkillers.
She also has wrist tube syndrome, which causes numbness and pain in her hand, but it is not clear if this is due to surgery or a strong pain after surgeryop drugs.
Still, mom. of-
Five people were very positive and she said her brain tumor was "the best thing to happen to me"-because she cherishes the people she loves more than ever.
"I'm important every day now," Karen said . " She recently became a grandmother.
"You won't be so close to death, you won't survive it, you won't change it. ‘No-
People with brain tumors will be the same after that.
Karen is determined to raise awareness of the need for research on brain tumors and brain cancers.
In the UK, more than 0. 5 billion pounds a year are used for cancer research, but only for brain cancer.
Karen recently raised £ 115 for brain cancer charities at the 11,000-meter watchtower at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London to raise awareness.
"Now, when I think back, I want me to say, 'I am not a hypoallergenic, I am not a moaner patient, and these symptoms are not caused by menopause.
I wouldn't see a doctor if it wasn't serious, but no one would take me seriously.
