Soldiers serving in Afghanistan are angry at a high-rise memorial wall that wants to destroy a major base in orugan province, where 40 Australian soldiers were killed in our longest war.
According to the plan, the name of the deceased will be painted, three large reinforced concrete T-
They were written on the broken wallboard and buried at the scene.
Many miners, families of the killed soldiers and the Australian War Memorial hope to show off the wall that was demolished and transported back to Australia at the National Memorial in Canberra.
Ray Palmer's son, Commandant Scott Palmer, who was killed in an Afghan helicopter crash on 2010, said that if the wall was not brought back or taken to another union country, he will feel depressed and angry.
"I don't care where it goes, I just don't want it buried," Mr Palmer said . ".
If they can bring everything elseback). . .
This is certainly not difficult.
He said he would write to Prime Minister Tony Abbott urging him to put pressure on the defense forces to change its decision.
The father of special forces officer Ben Chuck, who also died in a 2010 helicopter crash, said he would be disappointed if the monument was left behind.
"It is hoped that the Australian War Memorial will overturn the existing decision," he said . ".
"It seems to me that this is still part of our wartime national history, and the National War Memorial in Canberra was designed to accommodate something like this.
Personally, I would like to see it brought back.
In my opinion, this is a worthwhile result.
Mr Palmer said he was disappointed that he was not asked what he thought about the decision to bury the wall and that he was "damn sure there are a lot of families who don't want to do that to happen.
The commemorative team showed 114 names of all coalition forces (
Australia, USA, Netherlands and France)
The Dutch camp, based in orugan province, died during the war.
The first and only name under the age of 2002 is SAS Sergeant Andrew Russell, and the last and only name under the age of 2013 so far is Commando Corporal Cameron Baird.
There have been 35 Australian names since 2008, 10 in 2010 and 11 in 2011.
The memorial area near the camp parade includes a small monument that will be sent to the war memorial.
It also presents flagpole and gum trees, as well as poetry panels and a striking painting depicting a soldier around this rapidly shrinking military outpost, which is about to close in December.
When 20 million Australians leave, buildings and other infrastructure worth more than $1000 will be left behind and presented to the Afghan National Army.
But the fate of the memorial wall, which has been a solemn place for Anzac Day's dawn ceremony, has disturbed the troops.
Lieutenant Colonel Paul Wright of Canberra, commander of the withdrawal force, said he understood the importance of the wall to soldiers and the families of the victims.
However, this is not a simple matter, including the dead in four countries, and in order to preserve the name of Australia, it must be cut into pieces.
"This is considered not the right way to treat the walls," he said . ".
Paint the name off, break it down, and then the plan for burial has been approved by all four countries, but Colonel Wright admits, no one asked the question of sending the entire wall back to Australia.
The key factor in deciding to destroy it is to prevent the name from falling into the enemy's hands and being used for propaganda purposes.
The memorial hall has been digitally recorded and drawings and specifications have been prepared so that a faithful replica can be created.
The soldiers had different views on the issue and some supported the destruction plan, but others insisted that the destruction plan should be kept in its original form and returned home with thousands of tons of other equipment
Brendan Nelson, curator of the Australian War Memorial, said he wanted to see the memorial on display at the museum.
"I think our country and our defense authorities should move it back," Dr. Nelson said . ".
"It will be an honor to come to the Australian War Memorial.
"Containers filled with war memorabilia, including signs, plaques, photos and nameplates, have been sent back to Australia for display at museums across the country, including AWM.
"We will be happy to keep anything that can be brought back permanently," Dr. Nelson said . ".
